This work was painted in 1931 by Anselmo Miguel Nieto, a student of Alejo Vera and José Moreno Carbonero at the School of Fine Arts. He was also a portrait painter who depicted the intellectual elite of the time. Anselmo Miguel Nieto traveled with Julio and his brother Enrique Romero de Torres to America to carry out some commissions in Chile and Argentina, where he stayed for two years. Due to the Spanish Civil War he went back to America where he spent another ten years. The great friendship between Anselmo Miguel Nieto and Julio Romero de Torres through the years aimed the painter to reason why he carried out this portrait with pastels just before he died. The portrait is a posthumous homage dedicated to his great friend.
