The first period works of Julio Romero Torres get influenced by the Luminism. The painter's work goes through Modernism and Symbolism until reaching the Realism, as his landscapes and still lifes show. In his first artistic stage, Romero de Torres painted several works following the guidelines of Social Painting. Romero de Torres created a characteristic style influenced by the Realist painting of his father and his brother, Rafael.
